Nintendo DS Background
The Nintendo DS is the latest handheld console from Nintendo. It is the successor of the Game Boy Advance and the system was released in 2004. The Nintendo DS has two screens, bottom being the innovative touch screen which is interacts with the Stylus. There is a built in microphone and built in wi-fi capabilites. The Nintendo DS can play Game Boy Advance games as well normal DS Cartridges in a seperate slot.
Nintendo DS Lite
Released in 2006, the Nintendo DS Lite is smaller, weighs less and has 4 brightness settings. The design is more contempary and can still play Game Boy Advance games.
History & Development
Back in November 2003, Nintendo announced that they were working on a new console and would be released in 2004. At E3 2004 there was a first glimpse of the new handheld. The DS stood for "Dual Screen" hence the 2 screens in the system.
In September 2004, Nintendo revealed the release date for the Nintendo DS in North America would be 21st November 2004 with a price of $149.99. Later releases dates of 2nd December 2004 in Japan and in Q1 2005 in Europe & Australia.
The Nintendo DS was eventually released on;
- 24th February 2005 - Australia
- 11th March 2005 - Europe
The codename for the Nintendo DS during development was "Nitro"
